2027 Undergraduate Software Development & Firmware Engineering Internships – US
Key Responsibilities Interns may be assigned one or more of the following responsibilities based on project needs, team priorities, and individual strengths: Design, develop, test, and maintain software tools, applications, or back-end systems that support engineering workflows and product development. Contribute to firmware features, tools, test environments, or debug workflows for SSD and storage-related technologies. Apply Python, C/C++, or other programming languages, including AI-assisted programming tools, to build scripts, services, or automation that improve engineering efficiency. Support data analysis efforts, including analyzing engineering data, logs, or performance metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Troubleshoot and debug software or firmware issues; reproduce problems and assist with root-cause analysis. Work in Linux-based development environments to build, test, and deploy software or firmware. Work closely with cross-functional teams including software, firmware, data science, and product engineering. Create clear documentation for tools, code, workflows, and project deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline. Experience with Python, C, C++, or another programming language. Familiarity with Linux-based development environments. Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a technical team environment. Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn. This role is not eligible for candidates requiring VISA sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Experience with firmware development, embedded software, device drivers, or low-level systems programming. Familiarity with SSDs, NAND flash, NVMe, PCIe, or storage systems. Experience with back-end development, APIs, or service-oriented architecture. Exposure to AI-assisted programming tools, AI/ML concepts, or applied machine learning workflows. Experience with data analysis, scripting, or automation. Familiarity with version control systems such as Git. Strong interest in data center storage, software engineering, firmware, or AI-enabled systems.
