Application Scientist - Automation
<h5><strong>About the Role</strong></h5><p>Are you an applications scientist with strong laboratory expertise and hands-on experience developing laboratory automation?</p><p>We are looking for an <strong>Applications Scientist</strong> to join our EMEA Regional Marketing team. This is a customer-facing technical role that combines applications science, laboratory automation and commercial insight, helping customers and our commercial teams translate laboratory challenges into effective, automated workflows.</p><p>You will develop and optimise applications, programme and build automated workflows, generate application data and create technical content that supports both customer needs and our EMEA marketing strategy.</p><p>The role will have a particular focus on bioanalysis, pharmaceutical and CRO workflows, automated sample preparation, liquid handling and plate-based applications.</p><p>This is an opportunity to play a key role in helping shape how we respond to evolving customer and market needs across EMEA.</p><h5>What You’ll Do</h5><ul><li><p>Develop, programme, optimise and troubleshoot automated laboratory workflows and applications.</p></li><li><p>Translate manual laboratory and sample preparation processes into robust and reproducible automated workflows.</p></li><li><p>Develop and optimise applications relevant to bioanalysis, pharmaceutical, CRO and other analytical laboratory workflows.</p></li><li><p>Generate application data and technical evidence to demonstrate workflow performance, robustness, reproducibility and customer value.</p></li><li><p>Support customer demonstrations, proof-of-concept activities, technical evaluations and workflow implementation.</p></li><li><p>Work alongside Sales to understand customer requirements and develop practical technical solutions.</p></li><li><p>Provide technical input into sales opportunities and identify opportunities to increase adoption of automation.</p></li><li><p>Develop application notes, workflow guides, presentations, webinars and other technical content to support commercial and marketing activity.</p></li><li><p>Identify emerging market trends, customer needs and new application opportunities and translate these into actionable market insight.</p></li><li><p>Support product launches and provide technical input into EMEA marketing campaigns and activities.</p></li><li><p>Work with Product Management, R&amp;D and global Applications teams to provide voice-of-customer insight and inform future product and application development.</p></li><li><p>Build and share automation and applications expertise across the EMEA organisation.</p></li></ul><h5>What We’re Looking For</h5><p>We are looking for someone who combines <strong>scientific applications expertise with hands-on automation capability</strong>.</p><p>You will ideally have:</p><ul><li><p>A degree or advanced degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.</p></li><li><p>Significant practical experience in laboratory applications, automation, automated liquid handling and/or laboratory workflow development.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrable experience developing, programming, scripting and troubleshooting automated laboratory methods or workflows.</p></li><li><p>Strong understanding of sample preparation, liquid handling and plate-based laboratory workflows.</p></li><li><p>Experience developing, optimising and troubleshooting laboratory or analytical methods.</p></li><li><p>Strong customer focus, with the ability to understand technical requirements and translate them into practical solutions.</p></li><li><p>Excellent communication skills and the confidence to present technical information to customers and commercial and technical colleagues.</p></li><li><p>A commercially minded approach and an interest in understanding market trends and customer needs.</p></li><li><p>Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the EMEA region.</p></li></ul><h5>Why Join Biotage?</h5><p>This is an opportunity to apply your scientific and technical expertise to real-world customer challenges, developing practical applications and automated workflows that help laboratories improve their processes and achieve better results.</p><p>You’ll work on a varied mix of laboratory development, customer projects, technical evaluations and application content, with the opportunity to see your work move from the laboratory into customer applications and commercial activity.</p><p>If you enjoy solving complex laboratory problems, working with automation and sharing your technical expertise with customers, this is an opportunity to make a direct contribution to Biotage’s growth across EMEA.</p><h5>About Biotage</h5><p>Biotage is a global company specialising in solutions for separation, purification, synthesis and sample preparation across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, analytical and research markets.</p><p>We are driven by innovation and by our purpose of making the world healthier, greener and cleaner.
