Area Software Architect - Communication Area

<p>Every day, millions of messages are created, personalized, scheduled, and delivered through Voyado Engage. Behind that seemingly simple experience lies one of the most complex distributed systems in our platform.</p><p>As retailers expect richer personalization, more channels, and increasingly real-time experiences, that complexity is only growing. Our Communication Area owns the end-to-end communication platform, from content creation and personalization to orchestration, delivery, and message tracking across multiple channels.</p><p>We’re now continuing to evolve the architecture behind that platform. This isn’t about maintaining what already exists. It’s about making sure a business-critical system can keep evolving as our ambitions, volumes, and customer expectations grow.</p><h5>About the role</h5><p>As Area Architect, you’ll help set the technical direction across the Communication Area. You’ll work closely with engineering teams, tech leads, Area Leadership, and fellow architects, helping teams make architectural decisions that balance what we need to deliver today with where the platform needs to be years from now.</p><p>This role is about seeing the system beyond individual services and features. You’ll challenge assumptions, identify risks and opportunities before they become blockers, and help teams understand how local decisions affect scalability, reliability, and the evolution of the communication platform as a whole.</p><p>As part of the Area Leadership, you’ll work alongside our Engineering Manager, Product Lead, and UX Lead, shaping both what we build and how we build it.</p><p><strong>Some of the things you'll be up to:</strong></p><ul><li><p>Shape the technical direction of the Communication Area together with tech leads, engineering teams, and Area Leadership</p></li><li><p>Guide teams through architectural trade-offs around scalability, reliability, performance, developer experience, and long-term maintainability</p></li><li><p>Review and challenge significant technical proposals, exploring alternatives and strengthening designs before decisions become difficult to reverse</p></li><li><p>Look beyond today’s roadmap to identify emerging technical risks, opportunities, and foundational investments that will matter in the years ahead</p></li><li><p>Facilitate architectural discussions across teams, creating shared direction rather than isolated solutions</p></li><li><p>Coach tech leads and senior engineers, helping them strengthen their architectural thinking and technical leadership</p></li><li><p>Collaborate with architects across Voyado to ensure the Communication Area evolves as part of a coherent Engage platform</p></li></ul><h5>So, who are you?</h5><p>We believe you’re an experienced architect or senior technical leader who enjoys working with complex distributed systems where technical decisions have real impact at scale.</p><p>You combine curiosity with decisiveness. You’ll be joining teams with years of accumulated knowledge about the communication platform, and you won’t be expected to walk in with all the answers. Instead, you take the time to understand the system, its history, and the reasoning behind existing decisions before setting a new direction.</p><p>You naturally look beyond individual components to understand dependencies, downstream effects, and how today’s decisions shape tomorrow’s platform.</p><h6>We believe you have:</h6><ul><li><p><span>Architectural leadership experience across multiple teams or domains, with a track record of guiding others toward consistent technical direction as a technical lead, architect or senior engineer.</span></p></li><li><p>Deep experience with distributed systems and event-driven architecture, including asynchronous processing, message queuing, delivery guarantees, retry strategies, idempotency, and fault tolerance</p></li><li><p>Experience with communication or messaging systems at scale, ideally covering several parts of the lifecycle from content creation and personalization to scheduling, delivery, and tracking</p></li><li><p>Experience designing integration architectures involving external systems or providers, such as email, SMS, push, or similar delivery services</p></li></ul><p>Experience with .NET/C#, Azure, high-volume transactional databases, content rendering or templating systems, or communication platforms such as martech, CRM, CDP, or email marketing products is highly valued.</p><h5>What's in it for you?</h5><p>Communication at scale is a genuinely difficult engineering problem.
