Data engineer

Assignment description We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join a team developing and maintaining data platforms and pipelines for large-scale operational data. The assignment has a strong focus on Databricks and data governance. In this role, you will help develop and improve the Databricks platform setup, build scalable and reliable data pipelines, and strengthen governance capabilities across the data platform. You will work closely with developers, Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers and business stakeholders to translate technical and business requirements into governed, secure and production-ready data products. The role requires a high level of technical expertise, independence and the ability to contribute effectively from an early stage. You will design, develop and maintain scalable data platforms and robust ETL/data pipelines with a strong focus on Databricks. You will also drive improvements to the existing platform architecture and capabilities, implement data governance models, catalogues and metadata management, and ensure high standards for data quality, discoverability, security and compliance. The assignment also includes working with Infrastructure as Code for Databricks and related cloud services, enabling automated and reproducible platform environments, and designing technical solutions for complex data and platform challenges. You will contribute to the continuous development, operation and maintenance of the team’s data platform. Qualifications: You have a degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or equivalent relevant experience. You have several years of professional experience as a Data Engineer, Platform Engineer or in a similar senior data engineering role. You have strong hands-on experience with Databricks and Spark, including Databricks in production environments. You have strong experience with cloud-based data platforms, preferably AWS. You have strong programming skills in Python and SQL. You have experience designing, developing and maintaining medium- to large-scale data platforms and ETL/data pipelines. You have experience with Infrastructure as Code, IaC, for Databricks and related cloud infrastructure. You have strong understanding of data platform architecture and modern data engineering practices. You have strong understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata management and data discoverability. You have experience implementing governance capabilities in complex data environments. You have experience designing scalable, robust and secure data platform solutions. You are able to independently drive technical improvements and solve complex platform and data challenges. You have experience collaborating with both technical and business stakeholders. You have strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills. You are able to translate requirements into scalable and production-ready technical solutions. You have AWS and/or Databricks certifications, which is considered a strong advantage. You are a senior and self-driven Data Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in Databricks and modern data platform development. You combine deep technical knowledge with a structured and pragmatic approach to solving complex platform and data challenges. You are comfortable taking ownership of technical solutions and driving improvements independently, while collaborating closely with developers, Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers and business stakeholders. You understand the importance of governance, data quality, security and maintainability, and you are able to balance these requirements with the need to deliver scalable and valuable data products.
