Engineering Manager - Data Integration
A provider changes their API without warning. Your team catches it before a single customer notices. And the only feedback you get is a question about why the next integration is taking so long.
If that sounds familiar, we should talk.
At Anyfin, we're looking for an Engineering Manager who doesn't just keep the integrations running, but builds the team and the platform that make the next one easier. Someone who can lead people, set technical direction and still be useful in a pull request.
The foundation is built. Now it needs to scale.
Anyfin helps people refinance expensive consumer credit on better terms. Since 2017 we've helped people across Sweden, Finland and Germany take back control of their finances. We're profitable, we have a banking licence that lets us operate across the EU, and we're getting ready to launch new products and enter new markets. Our ambition is to be a pan-European company by 2030.
Almost every one of those steps starts with an integration. A new market means new credit bureaus, banks and payment providers, each with its own formats, quirks and opinions about uptime.
The team is small and intentionally so. We'd rather grow what each engineer can do than how many engineers we have.
The actual job
You'll lead a small team of engineers building and running the integrations that connect Anyfin to the outside world. You'll own how the team works, what it builds next and how good it gets at it. You'll report to our CTO.
You'll build the team. Hiring, onboarding, 1:1s, feedback and growth. You'll help each engineer get better at what they do and make the team stronger than the sum of its parts.
You'll make integration repeatable. The first integration in a new market shouldn't feel like the first integration ever. You'll shape the patterns, tooling and data contracts that turn each new provider from a project into a routine.
You'll own reliability. When an integration fails, a credit decision or a payout can fail with it. You'll make sure the team knows first, fixes fast and learns something each time.
You'll stay close to the code. This is a hands-on role. You'll review, pair, design and build alongside the team, because good technical leadership needs proximity.
You'll balance speed and quality. Regulated lending doesn't forgive sloppy systems, but it doesn't reward over-engineering either. You'll know the difference and help the team know it too.
You'll work across the business. Product, credit, data and operations all depend on the data your team brings in. You'll shape priorities with them, not just receive them.
Leading a team that builds with AI
AI isn't a side tool here. It's built into how we work across engineering, analytics, operations and product, and our tech team has built an AI-connected data and code environment on frontier models.
Integration work is a good place to see the difference. Reading provider documentation, mapping schemas, writing tests and investigating odd payloads are exactly the kind of work AI can speed up. But the data you bring in increasingly feeds systems that act on it without questioning it.
Part of this role is working out how to lead in that world. Not by mandating tools, but by helping the team get better with them, and being honest about where they don't help yet.
The people
You'll work with talented engineers, data engineers, product managers and credit experts who care a lot about getting things right. Share a half-formed idea on Friday and someone will have a prototype on Monday. We prefer it that way.
They're also generous with what they know, quick to laugh and happy to change their minds when you make a better case. As long as you can back it up.
This sounds like you if…
You've led engineering teams for several years, ideally with a focus on backend systems or data integration in a product company. You've hired and developed engineers, and you've learned something from every team you've led.
You've built mission-critical backend software in TypeScript and Node and deployed it on Kubernetes, ideally on GCP. You've integrated with external APIs and providers, and you know that the documentation is a starting point, not a promise. Our main stack is TypeScript and Node on the backend, React and React Native on the frontend, plus Python, Go, Kubernetes and GCP. The judgment you bring matters more than ticking every box.
You're pragmatic. You care about clean, maintainable code, get a little too excited about reliability and have very little patience for over-engineering.
You make decisions and create clarity without creating politics. People want to work for you, and they get better while they do.
Experience from fintech, lending or another regulated environment is a plus, but not a requirement.
More than anything, you can tell us about a team you made better. Not just what it shipped, but how it worked differently because you were there.
This is a hands-on leadership role. If you want to step fully away from the code, or if what you really want is to stay an individual contributor, this probably isn't your role.
A few practical notes
This role is based at our office on Drottninggatan 92 in Stockholm, and we work from the office. We think great teams and culture are built when people meet in person, especially at this stage.
EU work authorisation is required.
If you'd rather build integrations that just work than explain why the last one broke, we'd love to hear from you.
