The insurance must be valid for the period of stay and cover urgent and other medical care, hospitalisation, emergency dental care and medical repatriation if the person needs to return to their country of origin for health reasons. The insurance does not necessarily have to be Swedish. RFSL normally applies a six-month probationary period before a permanent employment becomes confirmed. This is a common arrangement in Sweden and allows both the employer and the employee to assess whether the employment works well in practice before the employment continues permanently. For work permit purposes, a probationary employment can result in the initial permit being granted only for the duration of the probationary period. Migrationsverket has specifically noted that people whose employment begins with a probationary period may therefore receive a permit for the probationary period, followed by a new assessment when the probationary period has ended. This means that if you require a work permit, you may need to obtain comprehensive health insurance yourself and, depending on the permit granted, apply for an extension before the initial permit expires. RFSL can provide practical support and guidance with the application process, but cannot sponsor or cover the cost of the required private health insurance, work permit application or related personal costs.
