Junior Aquatic Ecology Specialist
Environmental impact assessments for hydropower facilities and other renewable energy infrastructure projects as part of an interdisciplinary team in line with International Lenders' Standards Support aquatic biodiversity field surveys (fish, macroinvertebrates, water quality) in rivers and reservoirs Assist with species identification, taxonomic verification, and data/specimen management Contribute to literature reviews, habitat assessments, and species status evaluations Assist in drafting technical sections of ESIA reports and biodiversity management plans Support data entry, quality control, and analysis of ecological datasets Liaise professionally with local counterparts, authorities, and field teams Comply with health, safety, and environmental protocols during fieldwork Support in the design of fish migration facilities Preparation of technical reports and presentations Support in the preparation of proposals Education Bachelor's degree in biology, biodiversity, ecology, limnology, or a related field (required) Master's degree and/or PhD in aquatic/freshwater ecology, limnology, fisheries science, or related discipline (preferred) Experience and Skills Experience in aquatic ecology assessments is key, with knowledge of different methodologies and approaches General knowledge in ecology and conservation Understanding of aquatic life cycles and habitats General knowledge of Mekong (and beyond) ichthyofauna Willingness to learn and develop in aquatic ecology Working knowledge of data management/analysis tools (Excel required; R, GIS/QGIS an asset) Language proficiency in Lao (native/fluent) and English (working proficiency required for report writing and international team coordination); Thai or other regional languages an asset. Submission of English test scores (e.g. IELTS/TOEFL) may be requested if available, though not mandatory Willingness to work as part of an interdisciplinary and international team across Southeast Asia and beyond Willingness to travel and undertake frequent, sometimes remote, fieldwork, including in challenging field conditions.
