Junior/Mid JVM Backend Engineer - User Identity
Want to grow as a backend engineer while working on products that make login, identity and privacy simpler for users? We’re looking for two JVM Backend Engineers to join our User Identity team. You’ll work on Schibsted Account and privacy solutions used across Schibsted, developing login and consent experiences that are seamless and intuitive without compromising security. You don’t need to know our entire tech stack to join us. We’re looking for solid JVM foundations, curiosity and a willingness to learn and take ownership as you grow. ABOUT THE COMPANY Schibsted & Vend Polska is a joint venture between two leading Nordic entities - a major media house, Schibsted, and a dynamic marketplace leader, Vend. With over 300 software engineers in Kraków and Gdańsk, we provide high-quality technological solutions that support the operations and innovations of ABOUT THE TEAM Schibsted provides one account across multiple sites, helping users manage their identity in one place. This enables SSO and a smooth login and registration experience across Schibsted sites, while making it easier for users to manage their profiles, stored payment methods and privacy settings. Our team is responsible for Schibsted Account, the Consent Management Platform and privacy-related products. We’re a cross-functional team of 2 Product Managers, 1 UX Designer, 1 Data Analyst and 10 engineers based in Poland and Sweden. We have the autonomy to explore new ways forward, choose the tools and technologies we use, and influence the future of the Schibsted Account product. We also put a strong emphasis on self-development and knowledge sharing, including a 10% learning day and a training budget. We follow the “You build it, you run it” principle, which means the team takes ownership of the infrastructure behind the products we develop. Depending on your experience, you’ll have room to develop your skills while contributing to production systems and gradually taking greater ownership. What you’ll do Design and develop new functionality for Schibsted Account and the Non-Behavioral Consent Management PlatformTake part in owning and maintaining product infrastructure in AWS, with support from a dedicated DevOps teamSuggest improvements and future developments with maintainability in mind, considering the existing tech stack and architectureSupport the solutions we develop as part of our day-to-day workCollaborate with Product Managers and other stakeholders ABOUT YOU You have: Around 1-2 years of experience in software developmentExperience with and knowledge of JVM languages, particularly Kotlin or JavaExperience designing and building services in a cloud environment such as AWSGood collaboration, communication and problem-solving skillsCuriosity and willingness to learn, share knowledge and take increasing ownership of the solutions you work on You don’t need to tick every box in our broader technology stack. If you have a different technical background but are eager to learn and ready to take responsibility for the solutions you help create, we’d still like to hear from you. It’s great if you also have: Experience designing, building or operating large-scale distributed systemsExperience with DynamoDB or another NoSQL databaseExperience with MySQL, PostgreSQL or another relational databaseExperience with Docker, Terraform, AWS or KubernetesKnowledge of authentication standards such as OAuth and OpenIDKnowledge of RESTful APIs and queues such as SNS and SQS These are additional advantages rather than a checklist of things you need to know before joining us. Work model This is a hybrid role based in Kraków. We combine remote work with working together from our Kraków office, with an average of 2 days per week in the office.
