We are currently looking for a Senior Backend / Software Engineer for a assignment with one of our clients in Stockholm. You will join a development team working on payment and subscription-related services, with a broad technical scope covering transaction flows, recurring payments, billing, refunds and integrations with external payment providers. The team is currently investing in a new generation of its payment platform. The assignment will involve both building new backend functionality and evolving existing services, with a strong focus on scalability, reliability and a smooth transition between the current and future architecture. This is a role for someone who enjoys working close to the technology, takes ownership of their solutions and is comfortable operating across development, deployment and production environments. The role You will be involved throughout the development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation to deployment and troubleshooting. You will work closely with other developers as well as stakeholders across product and business functions. Your responsibilities will include: Developing and improving backend services supporting payment and subscription flows. Building new services and functionality using Go and/or Python. Contributing to the development of a new payment platform and related domain services. Working with integrations towards external payment service providers. Supporting payment flows involving areas such as billing, refunds, recurring payments, 3DS and SCA. Working with databases, data models and SQL. Taking part in technical design and architectural discussions. Deploying, monitoring and troubleshooting services running in the cloud. Contributing to the migration and modernization of existing functionality. Making occasional changes to frontend functionality using TypeScript/React, where required. What we're looking for We are looking for a senior engineer who combines strong backend development skills with a pragmatic and hands-on approach. You should have: Several years of professional experience developing backend systems in production. Strong experience with Go or Python. Good understanding of SQL and relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL. Experience working with cloud-based environments, ideally Google Cloud. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Helm and Terraform. Experience designing and working with APIs and integrations. An understanding of payment systems, subscriptions or billing is highly relevant. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently within a small development team. Basic to intermediate experience with TypeScript/React, or the willingness to work across the stack when needed. Additional experience that would be valuable Experience in one or more of the following areas would be a strong advantage: Payment platforms or subscription-based services. Payment service providers (PSPs) and payment integrations. 3DS, SCA, PCI or card payment flows. Migration of existing payment, billing or subscription systems. Event-driven architecture and messaging systems such as Pub/Sub. CI/CD and infrastructure automation. Automated testing. Using AI-assisted development tools and coding agents as part of a modern engineering workflow.
