Mainframe Storage & Backup Engineer

Job Summary: The Mainframe Storage & Backup Engineer is responsible for the administration, support, and optimization of the mainframe storage and backup infrastructure. The role manages IBM DS8910F storage systems, TS7770 virtual tape environments, tape operations, replication technologies, FCIP connectivity, and backup and recovery processes. The individual ensures data availability, integrity, disaster recovery readiness, and optimal storage performance for mission-critical mainframe workloads. Key Responsibilities: ·Administer and support IBM DS8910F storage systems in production and disaster recovery environments. ·Manage and maintain IBM TS7770 Virtual Tape Systems, tape libraries, and related backup infrastructure. ·Monitor storage capacity, utilization, performance, and availability to ensure uninterrupted operations. ·Configure and manage storage allocation, provisioning, and performance optimization activities. ·Support storage replication solutions for data protection, business continuity, and disaster recovery requirements. ·Manage and monitor FCIP connectivity and storage network components to ensure reliable data transmission. ·Perform storage and backup infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, and configuration changes. ·Execute and validate backup, restore, and recovery procedures for critical business systems. ·Support disaster recovery testing and ensure recovery objectives are consistently met. ·Troubleshoot and resolve storage, tape, replication, and backup-related incidents. ·Work closely with z/OS, application, database, and infrastructure teams to support operational requirements. ·Monitor storage and backup environments using enterprise management and reporting tools. ·Ensure compliance with organizational policies, operational standards, and audit requirements.
