Mechanical Technician at CERN
What you'll do:
High-temperature superconducting materials have interesting characteristics that make them suitable for future magnet applications. Come join CERN and take part in this exciting development.
As a mechanical technician, you will assemble models, prototypes and associated equipment within a research and development (R&D) programme dedicated to the development of high-temperature superconducting magnets. You will contribute to the design, manufacture and assembly of superconducting coils, components and associated tooling.
Your responsibilities:
- Produce high-temperature superconductor-based magnet coils.
- Assemble superconducting magnet models, prototypes and associated manufacturing tools.
- Manufacture and modify mechanical parts using conventional machining techniques, such as milling, turning and forming.
- Manage component stocks for assigned assemblies, initiate and follow up manufacturing requests and purchase orders, and perform acceptance tests.
- Prepare production and quality-control documentation, including procedures, test and measurement reports and component traceability.
- Produce computer-aided design (CAD) drawings of components and tooling, starting from 3D models.
Your profile:
- Hands-on experience in the mechanical manufacturing and assembly of electromechanical equipment, including conventional machining.
- Experience preparing and using quality documentation, including procedures, test and measurement reports, and component traceability.
- Experience reading mechanical drawings, including ISO-GPS dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Previous experience with superconducting systems would be an asset.
- Experience using mechanical CAD tools; specific experience with CATIA would be an asset.
- Technical certificate or general secondary education or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Your skills:
- Assembly of mechanical structures and equipment.
- Knowledge and application of manufacturing methods and work preparation.
- Manufacturing of mechanical parts.
- Production of 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Construction, test and installation of electromechanical equipment and systems.
- Works well in groups and readily fits into a team; participates fully and takes an active role in team activities.
- Takes responsibility for own actions and decisions.
- Adapts quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements.
- Listens actively to others and lets others speak.
- Produces workable and timely solutions that meet requirements.
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
