Process Engineer – Caster
Studies show that women and underrepresented groups often hesitate to apply unless they meet every requirement. At Stegra, we’re building an impact-driven, sustainable company - and we need a diverse, inclusive team to make it happen.
If you share our passion but don’t meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might be the perfect fit for this role, or another as we grow.
At Stegra, we’re not just building a plant, we’re proving that sustainable industry is possible. And to do that, we need people like you.
Join a team where safety comes first. Where we support each other, learn as we go, and make space for everyone to grow and contribute. This is your chance to be part of something big - while being closer to nature and leading a balanced, purposeful life.
Process Engineer – Caster
As our Process Engineer – Caster, you will join our Caster team within Steel Operations and play an important role in developing and optimizing our secondary metallurgy and continuous casting processes.
You will take technical and process ownership across Secondary Metallurgy, including Ladle Heating Furnace (LHF) and RH Vacuum Degassing, as well as our CSP Continuous Slab Caster and supporting processes.
Working closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Refractory and other engineering functions, you will help establish stable processes, solve technical challenges and continuously improve safety, quality, productivity and cost performance.
As we move through commissioning, ramp-up and into full production, you will have the opportunity to influence how our processes and ways of working are built from the ground up.
What you'll do
As Process Engineer – Caster, you'll work close to both the process and our production teams, taking technical ownership and turning process data and metallurgical knowledge into practical improvements. Your responsibilities will include:
- Take technical and process ownership of Secondary Metallurgy and Continuous Casting, including LHF, RH Vacuum Degassing, ladle and tundish practices, and the CSP Continuous Slab Caster.
- Develop and optimize metallurgical practices to achieve the required steel chemistry, temperature, cleanliness, inclusion control and slab quality.
- Monitor and optimize casting parameters and process performance to improve stability, productivity, metal yield and product quality while reducing defects and process deviations.
- Analyze process and quality data, troubleshoot operational challenges, and lead or support root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain process standards, operating practices, control plans and SOPs, while providing technical support and process training to production teams.
- Work cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Refractory and Steelmaking teams to optimize the complete process from ladle treatment through to cast slab.
- Support commissioning, process trials, development of new steel grades and continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, energy, alloy and refractory performance.
What you'll bring
We're looking for a technically strong and hands-on Process Engineer with experience from steelmaking and a solid understanding of the metallurgical processes behind producing high-quality steel.
- A degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or another relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Solid Process Engineering experience, preferably within steelmaking, Secondary Metallurgy and/or continuous slab casting.
- Strong knowledge of Secondary Metallurgy, including LHF/LF and RH processes, steel chemistry, temperature control, steel cleanliness and inclusion control.
- Experience with continuous slab casting, including process optimization, casting productivity, slab quality and defect reduction.
- Experience from projects, commissioning, plant start-ups or production ramp-up is considered a str
