Plant Engineering · Stockholm Blykalla is scaling quickly to industrialize our small modular reactor (SMR) concept. If you are passionate about nuclear technology and want to make a meaningful impact, join us. What we do at Blykalla Blykalla is a Swedish deep-tech company developing lead-cooled small modular reactors. Our compact reactor design combines high safety with a simple, cost-effective and scalable approach to delivering clean, reliable baseload energy that complements solar and wind power. The role As Reliability Engineer, you will own reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) engineering for Blykalla’s SEALER-55 lead-cooled fast reactor (LFR). You will work across assigned plant areas, systems and work packages within Plant Engineering, delivering quantitative reliability analysis that supports the plant design and the probabilistic safety assessment (PSA). You will establish and apply Blykalla’s RAM, FMEA and FMECA framework, ensuring reliability and availability targets are translated into design, redundancy, sparing, testing and maintenance requirements. You will assess how design and maintenance decisions affect plant availability and lifecycle performance, and support the project from design through procurement, construction and handover to commissioning and operations. What you’ll do RAM engineering and modelling Establish and maintain RAM, FMEA and FMECA methods, templates, criticality criteria, data sources and analysis assumptions. Define reliability design bases, RAM targets, modelling methodology and requirements for assigned areas. Build and maintain reliability block diagrams, fault trees and availability models, including Markov or Monte-Carlo simulations. Work in RiskSpectrum for fault-tree and PSA-aligned modelling, alongside relevant RAM tools such as ReliaSoft, Isograph, GRIF or Maros/Taro. Flow reliability, availability and maintainability requirements into specifications, data sheets and supplier packages. Analysis and technical input Perform and review RAM studies, FMEA/FMECA, reliability-centred maintenance analyses, criticality ranking, spares and logistics modelling, and lost-production analyses. Quantify the impact of redundancy, maintenance strategies, test intervals and sparing on availability and lifecycle performance. Develop reliability data and failure-rate estimates using sources such as ISO 14224 and OREDA, including Weibull/life-data analysis and common-cause assumptions. Provide component failure data, maintenance assumptions and common-cause inputs to the PSA and safety case. Interfaces, suppliers and delivery Coordinate with process, mechanical, rotating equipment, electrical, I&C, civil and structural, layout, safety and licensing, and operations and maintenance teams. Identify and resolve issues related to single points of failure, common-cause vulnerabilities, testability, maintainability and maintenance access. Set and review RAM requirements for RFQs and supplier packages, including reliability data, FMECA and reliability demonstration requirements. Contribute to estimates, schedules, risk reviews, design reviews, RFIs, site queries and change requests, including assessment of availability impacts. Capability building Mentor engineers and improve reliability methods, templates, checklists and data libraries. Help build a scalable reliability engineering capability that supports Blykalla’s plant-as-a-product mindset, modular design and DfMA approach. Typical deliverables Reliability design bases and RAM targets; reliability block diagrams, fault trees and availability models; RAM study reports; FMEA/FMECA and criticality registers; RCM analyses; reliability data libraries; PSA inputs; supplier review comments; interface registers; and change-control or handover inputs. Who you are You have: At least 6 years of hands-on experience in reliability or RAM engineering, including nuclear experience and RAM/PSA-support analysis for nuclear plants or systems. Experience leading reliability engineering across a major plant area, full project or several complex work packages. Strong quantitative RAM modelling skills and practical experience with RiskSpectrum. Knowledge of relevant reliability and dependability standards, including IEC 60300, IEC 61078, IEC 61025, IEC 61165, IEC 61649 and IEC 60812. Familiarity with ISO 14224, OREDA, nuclear reliability data, and relevant IAEA, regulatory and PSA guidance such as US NRC/NUREG and Swedish SSM guidance. The ability to work across technical disciplines, manage ambiguity and balance technical rigour with practical delivery. A collaborative, transparent and solution-oriented approach, with an interest in coaching others and strengthening the discipline. What we offer You will join a diverse and highly motivated Plant Engineering team and report to the Manager of Plant Engineering. This is an opportunity to help shape the reliability approach for a first-of-a-kind reactor programme and contribute directly to the future of clean nuclear energy. Location: Stockholm Salary range: SEK 60,000–76,000 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
