Senior Agile Product Owner – Payments

For our client, we are looking for an experienced Senior Agile Product Owner (APO) within the Payments domain . The consultant will lead an agile team responsible for core Payment Order Management functionality within a larger transformation programme. The role bridges business needs and technical execution, with a strong focus on scalable and highly available payment solutions, core APIs and payment orchestration. We are looking for a senior profile with deep functional knowledge of payments combined with strong Product Owner experience and a good technical understanding. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage an agile team responsible for core Payment Order Management functionality Own and prioritise the product backlog based on business value and technical dependencies Drive refinement, sprint planning and delivery of product increments Translate business requirements into clear requirements, API specifications and backlog items Work closely with architects, developers, testers and business stakeholders Coordinate dependencies across payment channels, payment processing, ledgers, AML/Sanctions screening and compliance Support the development of scalable, high-availability payment solutions Drive alignment across teams and stakeholders within a large payment transformation programme Contribute to technical and architectural discussions related to payment flows and orchestration Required Experience & Competence Proven experience as an Agile Product Owner / Product Owner within Payments Deep functional understanding of the end-to-end payment order lifecycle , including initiation, validation, enrichment, routing, execution and status management Strong experience with ISO 20022 / MX messaging Experience with legacy payment formats such as SWIFT MT Experience with Core APIs / REST APIs and event-driven payment flows Good understanding of complex, event-driven and microservice-based architectures Experience working with payment reconciliation, exception/error handling and preferably FX-related payment flows Strong experience translating business requirements into technical requirements and backlog items Experience from Scrum and/or SAFe Strong stakeholder and dependency management skills Excellent communication and collaboration skills Experience from large and complex organisations, preferably within banking or financial services Payment Infrastructure & Clearing Experience Relevant experience should include several of the following areas: Swedish domestic clearing Bankgirot / BGC RIX-RTGS RIX-INST SWIFT SEPA TARGET / TARGET2 EBA EURO1 Cross-border payments AML / Sanctions screening dependencies Personal Profile We are looking for someone who combines deep Payments expertise with strong agile leadership. You are comfortable working between business and technology and can communicate effectively with senior stakeholders as well as architects, developers and testers. You are structured, collaborative and able to drive prioritisation and decision-making in a complex environment with multiple dependencies.
