Senior Software Development Manager - Global Operations Team

the opportunity to : Lead a critical initiative in re-architecting transportation systems for global scalability Build and grow a new engineering team in India, owning end-to-end delivery Work on high-scale, event-driven systems processing 30–40 million transactions daily Solve complex distributed systems challenges that impact every shipment across the platform What You Will Do : Lead, hire, and grow a team of 8–10 engineers, setting a high bar for performance and career development Drive the execution of a key platform initiative focused on re-architecting systems for global use cases Break down complex problem statements into clear technical designs and execution plans, partnering with senior engineers Own end-to-end delivery, ensuring projects are executed efficiently with strong planning, tracking, and outcomes Apply strong program management practices including risk identification, mitigation, and stakeholder communication Collaborate cross-functionally with global teams to align on priorities and drive large-scale initiatives forward Build and evolve an event-driven, highly scalable system processing tens of millions of daily transactions Establish a high-performance engineering culture with focus on accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement Basic Qualifications 8+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years in engineering management Strong technical background in Java backend development and distributed systems Experience managing teams of 10+ engineers through full development lifecycle Hands-on experience with relational databases (MySQL, Aurora, TiDB) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming platforms (Kafka, Flink, or Spark) Track record of delivering large-scale, high-reliability platforms on time Strong communication skills — ability to translate between business stakeholders and engineering teams BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience Preferred Qualifications Experience working on large-scale distributed or event-driven systems Prior experience in e-commerce, transportation, logistics, or platform engineering domains Experience building or re-architecting systems for global scalability Strong track record of driving cross-team initiatives in fast-paced environments Experience hiring and scaling engineering teams in a high-growth setup Type of work model Hybrid / Onsite / Remote working Our Hybrid work model: Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees.
