Senior Systems Engineer – Satellite Communications at Ovzon

At Ovzon, you will work with the space-based systems that enable satellite communications when terrestrial infrastructure is insufficient, unavailable or disrupted. The role combines RF engineering and system-level design with requirements engineering, procurement, supplier collaboration and verification. About the role Ovzon develops and delivers integrated mobile satellite communication services. Its communications system includes Ovzon 3, the company’s proprietary geostationary satellite, featuring steerable spot beams and an On-Board Processor that enables communication even when ground infrastructure is limited or unavailable. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will work at the heart of Ovzon’s technical organization and take responsibility for how the communications system is designed, specified and verified as a whole. The role requires a broad system perspective: understanding how different technical domains interact, evaluating alternative solutions and ensuring that external suppliers meet defined requirements. You will be based at Ovzon’s Stockholm office, where much of the company’s technical development takes place. Responsibilities You will work across the full development chain, from technical needs and system requirements to delivered and verified solutions. Your responsibilities will include: Developing, structuring and maintaining technical requirements for satellite communication systems. Contributing to system-level design and evaluating alternative technologies and technical trade-offs. Preparing technical documentation for procurement processes and evaluating proposals and supplier solutions. Reviewing technical documentation and ensuring that partners and suppliers meet defined requirements. Developing and reviewing RF, link and capacity budgets. Defining verification plans and acceptance criteria, and supporting the validation team with system knowledge and test planning. Managing regulatory requirements within radio communications and contributing to cybersecurity requirements for the communications system. Coordinating technical matters across internal specialists, partners and suppliers, and leading smaller technical projects when required. We are looking for someone whoHolds a relevant technical degree, for example in electrical engineering, engineering physics, space engineering, telecommunications or systems engineering. Has several years of relevant experience in systems engineering, requirements engineering or technically advanced communication systems. Has practical experience of formulating, structuring or following up technical requirements. Can understand complex systems and the interfaces between areas such as RF, networks, software, hardware and external subsystems. Is comfortable reading, writing and assessing technical documentation. Is fluent in English, both spoken and written. It is considered an advantage if you have: A Systems Engineering certification, such as ASEP or CSEP. Experience in satellite communications, radio communications, telecommunications or other RF-based systems. Worked with RF or link budgets, frequency planning or regulatory matters within radio communications. Experience in technical procurement, proposal evaluation or requirements management involving external suppliers. Worked with verification planning, requirements traceability or validation of complex systems. Experience of cybersecurity requirements for communication systems. Professional working proficiency in Swedish. To succeed in the role, you combine technical curiosity with a structured and pragmatic approach. You can move between detailed requirements and the wider system perspective, document your conclusions and drive technical matters forward even when all the answers are not yet available. You collaborate closely with specialists and suppliers while taking ownership of your analyses and follow-up. About the employment This is a consultancy assignment, which means that you will initially be employed by Friday. The shared intention of Friday and Ovzon is for you to transition to direct employment with Ovzon after 12 months. This position is placed in a security class. Employment is therefore subject to successful completion of a security vetting process, including a register check, in accordance with Swedish security protection legislation. Applicants who already have the legal right to work in Sweden will be prioritized. Work permit sponsorship may be considered in exceptional cases.
