We work with city planners, technical consultants, insurance firms and humanitarian organisations who need to identify flooding risk by running scenarios and helping them evaluate appropriate intervention to protect what matters most.</span></p><h3><span><strong>Why Join Us?</strong></span></h3><p><span>You’ll be an early hire working close to the CTO and Head of GIS, helping shape product and engineering practices in a purpose-driven company.</span></p><h3><span><strong>The Role</strong></span></h3><p><span>We’re hiring a <strong>backend developer</strong> who can operate comfortably in a <strong>DevOps-oriented team</strong>—owning backend development while also improving and running cloud deployments, CI/CD, and operational reliability. Our stack includes <strong>.NET</strong>and <strong>Azure</strong>, and we also use <strong>SolidJS/TypeScript</strong> in the product.</span></p><h3><span><strong>What you’ll do</strong></span></h3><h5><span><strong>Backend engineering & system design</strong></span></h5><ul><li><p><span>Build and maintain C#/.NET APIs and backend services.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Make pragmatic architecture decisions: scaling, caching, queuing, performance optimization, and reliability trade-offs.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Write clean, testable code and raise engineering quality via reviews, testing, and good defaults.</span></p></li></ul><h5><span><strong>Cloud, DevOps & CI/CD (hands-on)</strong></span></h5><ul><li><p><span>Improve and own CI/CD pipelines (Azure Pipelines or equivalent) and release processes.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Work with Azure infrastructure (preferred): deployments, observability, operational tooling, and cost-aware reliability.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Containerize services with Docker; help mature deployment patterns.</span></p></li></ul><h5><span><strong>Data & platform fundamentals</strong></span></h5><ul><li><p><span>Work with PostgreSQL (or similar) including schemas, migrations, and safe production changes.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Collaborate closely with engineering/product to deliver end-to-end improvements.</span></p></li></ul><h3><span><strong>Must-have qualifications</strong></span></h3><ul><li><p><span><strong>C# / .NET: </strong>strong experience building APIs and backend services.</span></p></li><li><p><span><strong>Azure (preferred) </strong>or equivalent cloud infrastructure experience.</span></p></li><li><p><span><strong>System design and performance intuition</strong></span></p></li><li><p><span><strong>DevOps & CI/CD: </strong>Azure Pipelines or similar; understands CD and safe releases.</span></p></li><li><p><span><strong>Database fundamentals: </strong>PostgreSQL (or similar), migrations, schemas.</span></p></li><li><p><span><strong>Docker.</strong></span></p></li><li><p><span><strong>Unit testing </strong>and practical engineering quality habits.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Comfortable working in<strong> Scrum/Agile </strong>environments.</span></p></li></ul><h3><span><strong>Good-to-have qualifications</strong></span></h3><ul><li><p><span><strong>Kubernetes </strong>(AKS or similar) and production operations patterns.</span></p></li><li><p><span><strong>GIS / geospatial </strong>experience, especially<strong> PostGIS.</strong></span></p></li><li><p><span>Proficiency in modern frontend development (e.g. SolidJS or similar frameworks).</span></p></li><li><p><span><strong>AI as a tool </strong>across the dev cycle (building, testing, debugging, analysis, design)</span></p></li><li><p><span>Familiarity with<strong> VLMs / visual language models.</strong></span></p></li></ul><h3><span><strong>Who You Are</strong></span></h3><ul><li><p><strong>Fluent in English: </strong>Our technical working language is English so you must be fluent in reading, writing and speaking.
