In this role, you will work at the intersection of materials technology, structural analysis, and forming simulation to support the development of next-generation automotive solutions. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, collaborating with customers, and using advanced simulation tools to turn innovative concepts into robust, manufacturable products. We are seeking an experienced engineering professional with strong analytical skills, deep technical expertise, and a genuine interest in product development, structural analysis, and sheet metal forming. About the position As a Design Specialist, you will provide expert guidance on structural performance, forming feasibility, simulation methods, material behavior, and application development. Your expertise will help customers optimize components and structures for performance, manufacturability, and sustainability using SSAB’s portfolio of advanced steel grades. You will focus on the mobility segment, developing conceptual designs, evaluating structural performance, and predicting manufacturing outcomes, often in close collaboration with vehicle manufacturers. Your daily work will include structural analyses, forming simulations, material data evaluation, method development, problem-solving, and knowledge sharing. You will join a highly skilled team of steel experts who combine deep technical expertise with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Main responsibilities Develop design concepts that illustrate the benifits and applications of advanced steel grades Collaborate with automotive customers in designing and optimizing components and body structures Perform structural analyses using finite element methods (FEM) to assess structural performance and lightweighting possibilities Conduct forming simulations to evaluate manufacturability and process robustness Develop and validate simulation methodologies, material models, and engineering workflows Provide customers and colleagues with technical expertise in structural performance, forming processes, material behavior, and design optimization Develop and deliver technical training, workshops, seminars, and presentations tailored to customers and business needs About you A master’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, engineering physics, vehicle engineering, or a related field At least five years of experience in the automotive, manufacturing, or engineering industry Solid knowledge of and experience in structural analysis and/or sheet metal forming simulation.
